The 2-Hour Rebrand Challenge: A Creative Sprint for Designers

Ever wanted to flex your design skills, grow your portfolio, or just have some fun with a time-capped project? The 2hr Rebrand Challenge is for you!

It’s simple, fast, and super fun: you create a fake design brief, whip up a quick ‘existing’ brand, then rebrand it in two hours. The result? A creative workout that’s perfect for reels, portfolio pieces, and expanding your branding chops.

Here’s how to join in!

You can check out this post (and lots more!) over on my Instagram Page @hannah.bacon.design

Step One: Generate a Fake Design Brief

Use ChatGPT (or any AI prompt app) to generate a fake business and design brief.

Here’s my go-to prompt:

Generate a design brief for a branding project for the following business:
[business type] with years of experience that can be trusted. They are professional but still have a friendly personality with a sense of humor.
Generate a business name, colour palette with hex codes, tag line, business values and suggestions for a logo.

Handy Tips:

  • Start by picking a business type (or ask AI for ideas!)

  • Edit the tone or description to get different results every time.

Step Two: Create the ‘Existing’ Brand

Make the “before” logo using a free online logo generator—Canva is my fave for this. Their templates tend to feel generic, which makes the redesign even more satisfying.

The goal here isn’t to mock amateur design but to see how a skilled designer (you!) can transform an average brand. Try to:

  • Use the elements mentioned in the brief.

  • Stay realistic—think like a non-designer.

  • Plug in brand colours and generic fonts.

You’ll want a solid “before” to contrast your final rebrand.

Step Three: Rebrand It!

Set your timer: two hours on the clock and go!

Use the brief to guide your redesign. Here’s the structure I follow when turning it into a Reel:

  1. Show the brief & highlight keywords

  2. Drop in your logo template

  3. Add your brand name + colours

  4. Show the ‘existing brand’ and swatches

  5. Include any ChatGPT logo prompt outputs

  6. Reveal the final logo, colour palette & patterns

  7. Finish with a before/after transformation

No pressure. No rules. Just creativity.

What’s the Point?

This challenge started as a fun idea to create content for my feed—but it quickly turned into a crowd favorite. It’s not only a great way to improve your branding skills, but it also helps you:

  • Get portfolio-ready work

  • Practice working to a brief

  • Have a structured but flexible creative session

  • Join a fun, creative community
