The guys from Plenty of Game wanted to help players of the card game Magic the Gathering to ‘find their tribe’. This sentiment really captures what this games store is about, it’s fun bright and most of all it’s inclusive. Laura Haughton and I were tasked with building a brand that had the right balance of fun and professionalism, all whilst being an individual. That individual in question? Meet Roly our die mascot!
THE BRIEF
After rigorous competitor analysis we found that many games store brands felt masculine, and were perceived to have a masculine culture that may deter some shoppers and players. Our personas allowed us to see that there were two very different target audiences that we had to appeal to — the everyday shopper who may be purchasing a gift, and the games enthusiast. To connect with these two groups we focused on a positive and well-executed, fun look, and our happy-go-lucky mascot, Roly, symbolises the staff and player culture in the store.
